KAHAL and DIS have partnered to help support Jewish life in Scandinavia. KAHAL works with DIS students and in-country staff to coordinate opportunities for students of all backgrounds to engage in Jewish programming and inter-faith dialogue. DIS ensures that Jewish students have all the resources they need by connecting students with one another, to the local community, and to KAHAL staff. WHAT IS DIS?

DIS is a non-profit study abroad foundation established in Denmark in 1959, with locations in Copenhagen and Stockholm. DIS provides semester, academic year, and summer programs taught in English, and offers high-impact learning experiences for upper-division undergraduate students from distinguished North American colleges and universities. The intellectually challenging curriculum is broad, cutting edge, and enriched by experiential learning components, including faculty-led study tours across Europe. It provides students with opportunities for meaningful cultural engagement and personal growth, which is further enriched through housing and extracurricular offerings. DIS is dedicated to supporting students of all backgrounds. DIS provides resources and recommendations for local religious communities students can join, and respects the needs tied to their religious obligations throughout their time abroad.

“I’m so happy I had a place to go for the high holidays. I always feel at home when I’m with my Jewish community celebrating an event. For Rosh Hashanah, I celebrated at Chabad Copenhagen. The meal was great and everyone was quite welcoming. There were maybe 20 other students from DIS there but also some locals. I enjoyed celebrating with all of them!”
