“Rosh Hashanah was awesome! Thank you so much for helping me with the connection -- it is an experience I will remember for the rest of my life.”

Raphael M.Rosh Hashanah Location: Senegal

“I had great conversations at Rosh Hashanah dinner about my time in Botswana, my Jewish life back in America, and the current political climate in South Africa. It was extremely refreshing to be surrounded by a Jewish community during the start of a new year. Although I am not Orthodox, I felt grateful to have had the opportunity to experience a different type of Rosh Hashanah experience by attending their Orthodox Shul. Being surrounded by so many Jews made me appreciate the richness of our culture and religion; our tradition is something I hold near and dear to my heart. I am thankful to KAHAL for helping me find this family and giving me the resources to have made this spontaneous trip down to Johannesburg possible.”

“Rosh Hashanah was so lovely. I went to a family's house where I got to meet entirely new people and have a whole different experience. The family was a little more secular which is more close to what I was used to for high holidays which was really nice. The host was super creative with the meal to include all the different foods and it was such a lovely meal. She sent me home with plenty of food too which was so kind. ”
